Recently, the Institute for Infrastructure Asset
Management hosted the Second Annual Workshop
on Ground Penetrating Radar. Participants at the
workshop included invited individuals representing a
wide spectrum of perspectives, including those of
academia and researchers, service providers,
hardware and software developers, local, state and
federal governments, and users of GPR data in a
variety of sectors and applications.

In a very productive and exciting two-day period,
participants at the workshop deliberated on many
current GPR issues, and identified several future
opportunities and applications.

The first day focused on introducing new
developments on GPR technology and its utilization
in solving transportation infrastructure problems.
The second day included breakout sessions that
deliberated the issues of validation, standardization
and usefulness of GPR applications. To unite all
ideas and goals into a single action plan, a resolution
was proposed to create a new organization in the
form of Society or Institute to provide a permanent
forum for GPR-related topics and events.
The resolution was voted affirmatively in a
unanimous vote and, thus, the workshop participants became the founding members of the contemplated organization.
